Exciting ideas are blooming in Vienna to foster a smarter, greener, and more inclusive city! Re:Wien, an initiative by OekoBusiness Wien and Impact Hub Vienna, is in full swing, supporting innovative projects for a better Vienna. Here’s a glimpse into the change-makers’ visions.

Ideas to improve Vienna

This year, 26 initiatives are aiming to make a significant impact in the city. Among them, an AI-based platform aims to enhance energy efficiency for SMEs, responding to recent spikes in energy costs for Viennese homes and businesses. Legal accessibility and streamlined social benefits are in the spotlight too. Participants are devising simplified, multilingual solutions to assist everyone, including foreign workers, easing their integration and addressing Austria’s labor shortage. It’s not just residents who stand to gain. Tourists and internationals could soon explore Vienna through an insider’s guide, accessible from smartphones, offering gems only locals would know!

Re:Wien is also suitable for start-ups on their early stage. Another idea that aims to impact beyond Vienna’s borders is DeSalBox. This ambitious project is also part of Re:Wien and seeks to tackle global water scarcity by converting saltwater into drinkable water using proven technologies.

What is Re:wien?

Re:Wien is a startup accelerator propelling ideas to enhance Vienna’s livability. The program is supported by the City of Vienna and benefits from a network of experts and 71 entrepreneurs who have already been supported in the last 7 years. Now in its eighth edition, entrepreneurs are currently mastering financial modeling and planning in the ‘base camp’ phase. January will see them dive into go-to-market strategies, prototyping workshops, and other bespoke sessions to refine their startup concepts.
