Elevating Green Events: Climate Lab Obtains Ecolabel Certification

Due to growing environmental concerns, there has been an increasing demand for eco-conscious practices across various industries. One area where this shift is particularly evident is in event planning and management. 

Recognizing the need to align with sustainable practices, Climate Lab proudly announced its recent achievement of the Austrian Ecolabel for Green Meetings and Green Events. This marks a significant milestone in Climate Lab’s commitment to hosting green events and fostering environmentally friendly practices within its space.

From the moment it opened its doors, in September 2022, Climate Lab has diligently implemented a range of sustainable measures to minimize its environmental footprint and promote eco-friendly initiatives. This reached another level with the achievement of the Ecolabel for Green Meetings and Green Events in December 2023. The certification underscores Climate Lab’s dedication to sustainability and also positions it as a leader in the realm of green events.

What Is The Green Event Certification

The Ecolabel for Green Meetings and Green Events is an environmental certification awarded to events that demonstrate a commitment to environmentally conscious and socially responsible management practices. Established in 2010, the certification is aimed at promoting green events across Austria. 

In order to qualify for the Ecolabel, events must meet a set of sustainability criteria, which can include environmentally friendly mobility, procurement, material and waste management. Using exclusively organic food in catering or offering tailored accommodation for people with disabilities is encouraged and rewarded too.

Why Green Events Matter

In today’s world, where climate change is a pressing issue, green events are more important than ever. These prioritize sustainability at every stage, from planning and execution to post-event activities. By adopting eco-friendly practices, green events minimize resource consumption, reduce waste generation, and mitigate harmful environmental effects.

In embracing sustainable practices, Climate Lab is following in the footsteps of Impact Hub Vienna, the organization by which it is operated. Impact Hub Vienna was officially certified as a green location for eco-friendly events in October 2022. Examples of green meetings held at the venue since then include workshops for the start-up programs RE:WIEN and GROW.

The latest addition to the impact ecosystem, Future Health Lab, is also in the process of securing its sustainable event certification.
